Linux is a totally Free operating system, like Windows or Mac OS X but better. There are thousands of applications available for Linux that are also totally free and a cinch to install.
It is a good idea to bring your own laptop so that you don’t have to repeat the time-consuming configuration when you get home.
We’ll be using the popular Ubuntu linux distribution.

Who should attend
People who want a more secure, safer, freer and less expensive operating system than Windows, who have a good working knowledge of how to install software and eg setup an email account.
Skills required
Intermediate computer literacy, covering software installation, setting up email accounts, managing files and basic system administration.

- Linux: You will know how to clean install and configure the Ubuntu GNU/Linux operating system.
- Free Software: You will have an awareness of the principles of Free Software.
- The web: You will have a knowledge of simple search techniques.
- Email: You will have knowledge of Free Software email clients and how to configure them.
- Multimedia applications: You will have a basic understanding of the different types of Free Software multimedia applications, and an appreciation of Open File Formats.
All techniques will be taught using Free Software that will be made available free of charge to all students.
