    • Web essentials: markup, styling & behaviour
    • Your medium: the browser
  2. Afternoon: HTML & CSS in action
    • HTML: markup for structure
    • CSS: style using markup hooks
    • An example: from visual to web page

Who should attend

Graphic designers who need a foundation in web technologies and terminology, and an understanding of how visual design translates into web pages.

Skills required

A background in graphic design, familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator, a working knowledge of how to navigate the web.

Learning outcomes

  • Web technologies: An awareness of how the web works in principle, server-side technologies in general and front-end technologies in particular.
  • Designing pages for the web: An understanding of the essential restraints & freedoms of designing for a web browser, and how these affect the visual design process.
  • Front-end technologies: How to easily generate valid HTML, and hands-on experience of creating Cascading Style Sheets.

All techniques will be taught using Free Software that will be made available free of charge to all students
